Shampoo was an ordinary Chinese Amazon woman until the day Ranma and his father Genma arrived on the scene and ate Shampoo's first prize for winning a sparring event. Due to this sacrilegious event, Shampoo took Ranma (who was in girl form throughout the event) into a fight which she lost. Due to her losing, she dealt him the kiss of death, a promise that she was to find him and kill him.

When Ranma returns to Japan, Shampoo follows him and sees Ranma in boy form. She then falls in love with him not knowing that Ranma changes into a girl when splashed by cold water. The story takes a mighty spiral when Shampoo finally realises that the man she loves and the woman she hates are the same person. Thus she returns home to be thrown into the accursed pond of the drowned cat by her grandmother, Cologne. This finally causes her to realise that Ranma is in fact a guy rather then a girl, and so she returns to Japan.

Overall, Shampoo is not a catgirl, she simply turns into a cat when splashed with cold water, but she earns the right for a spot at Catgirls Paradise nevertheless (yesh, her looks are a major factor in her earning this right ) Shampoo fights using weapons composed of two sticks with colorful round balls on the ends and she talks broken Japanese substituting words and ending her sentences in "tcha".
